 "A classic is a book that hasn't yet ceased to say what it's got to say." 2017's Murder on the Orient Express seems to share Calvino's thought in the mind of its maker, award-winning director and screenwriter Kenneth Branagh. And that's why both Agatha Christie's savvy and tyros alike will enjoy retelling of the book themes in this one-time detective story displaying the art-déco, lavishly exotic setting of the Thirties with its quaint, glamorous characters. Contained within the unity of time and space - the restricted passenger cars of the worldwide famous train on its luxurious Paris-Istanbul journey - the investigation of a murder case is conducted by Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, whose "little gray cells" will be dared to find out the criminal by the quirky train passengers, each of them morally controversial and, therefore, each of them a suspect. The nature of justice and the existence of a morally gray area questioning the clear-cut, black-and-white world of the uncompromising investigator are among the all-time themes featured here, along with the ins-and-outs of the class system , still an issue today; weighty matters were it not for the amusing, mildly self-righteous but loyal and sympathetic mustachioed stickler Poirot, whose reassuring way to tackle evil human deeds makes them all more bearable.
