“A queen who lost three kingdoms. A wife who lost three husbands. A woman who lost her head.” Crowned queen of Scotland when still a baby girl, Mary Stuart married Francis II of France, then Lord Darnley on the king’s death, and finally Darnley’s alleged murderer the Earl of Bothwell - a union that had her flee from her native land and seek shelter in England with Elizabeth I her cousin, only to set about threatening the queen’s unsteady throne soon after.

Two women, alike in gender, blood and role, whom no one could have understood better than each other ; two women whose corrupt courts and their greedy, power-hungry barons set against each other, but whose male dominated world couldn’t bridle their innermost womanhood feelings (a philogynist Hollywood, for once).
