Replicant K., a bio-engineered robotic being working for the Police Department in 2049 Los Angeles is in charge of hunting down and terminating those of his own kind who've gone rogue, and with their claims to freedom rights are threatening to jeopardise the despotic system that created and made them slaves in its extra-terrestrial colonies; but when K. learns the astonishing news that one of the replicants delivered a child before dying, what was a run-of-the-mill job flings doors open wide to the urge of the establishment to nip potential uncontrollable reproduction in the bud, while greedy companies go at it with trying to seize the secret that would boost their profit.

This is the story of Blade Runner 2049, the sequel to the 1982 cult movie we teachers have thought of to get the Movie Experience new year started, and which seems not be disappointing critics at all! "Every civilization was built off the back of disposable workforce": the quote winks at just one of the thought-provoking arguments this movie is endowed with. Others wonder who's who between humans and robots, between the soulless and the compassionate; bring up issues such as cloning and genetic morphing; and tops it all off with environmental degradation. At any rate, if even the online reviewer Rotten Tomatoes thinks it's made a 35-year wait worthwhile, the movie may well be worth a try!
